Pikes Peak or Bust

Wow is all I can say. No we never made it to the summit ( 14,000 plus ft ), but we did make 11 miles of the drive up to the summit and also drove on the dirt portion of the road. The vistas from that altitude were nothing short of spectacular and the distance you could see from every one thousand feet of altitude provided us both we some great photo opportunities. Ally packed us a lunch with the idea of having a picnic up in the park and we found a great secluded spot to sit, take in the scenery and enjoy a lunch together.

I thought the drive up there was going to be extremely rough, but it turned out easier then I thought. The car did well going up and coming down. What was awesome was to be able to see this famous stretch of road as it was the same road my Uncle Raleigh used to drive when testing Oldsmobile's for the factory engineering team. It was really a great moment to be driving the same curves he drove back in the early 60's.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.
