The Trip Back to Tennessee

( April - 2006 )

I can't believe our winter is now over and we are beginning our trip back to Bristol. We have seen some gorgeous scenery over the last few months and this page contains the sites we visited or drove through on our way back home. As a footnote, let me say that if you have been to Vegas but never seen the Hoover Dam then shame on you. It is amazing to think they designed and engineered this massive project back in the late 1920's and then completed the project 14 million dollars below cost and two years ahead of schedule. Do yourselves a favor and the next time your in Vegas, go see this American marvel.

Lake Mead at Boulder City, NV The road onto the Hoover Dam
The Road Across the Dam The generators which produce enough electricity in one year for 1 million people
Darn, that's a long way down A view looking at the Colorado River
Ingrid & her Mum at the Dam The great wall of the Hoover Dam
A view of an intake The upstream side of the Dam
Chris Steering the Bus over the top of Hoover Dam A view out the window of the Hoover dam from the co-pilot  ( passengers seat )
For any of you that has seen the Movie " Fools Rush In ". This is where the baby was born scene was filmed.           ( Selma, what a Babe...:) The co-pilot and drivers seat is situated a ways UP. It provides some amazing views like this.
Another view of the dam Just leaving the dam and heading UP. Look at that winding road heading into the mountains.
A view looking back t the dam as we head further up the road leading us out of the dam area Just off highway 93 past the Nevada / Arizona line
Look close enough and you can see the Big Horn sheep. An officer at the inspection station near the dam pointed them out to me Just leaving Arizona and entering New Mexico
A view of New Mexico from I-40 Albuquerque, NM. I was impressed with how clean this city was. I always pictured it as a dirty sprawling city. It wasn't.
Just leaving Albuquerque. Note the Corvette to my right. Gallup, New Mexico
Gallup, New Mexico. The face of this mountain had some unusual forms on it that looked almost like they were carved. Near Amarillo Texas. For the most part, Northern Texas looks just like this. A little boring as compared to the West.
Another shot of Texas from I-40. Texas again off I-40.
A splendid view of the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. The area is beautiful and filled with small lakes. Another view of the Ozark Mountains. My Great grandparents and Grand parents came from Arkansas.
Another view of the Ozark Mountains. This photo by the way was taken from a rest area. I do have to say the USA has some gorgeous rest areas. Looking out across the Rest area grounds.
Buffalo we seen in Oklahoma. A long horn steer in Oklahoma. Dang those horns are huge.
A view taken by Ingrid of the Meteor Crater in New Mexico. The Meteor Crater again. This thing hit 50,000 years ago and had more force then one of our nuclear bombs.
Mum taking pictures from the crater. The meteor hit with such force and temperature that it vaporized the earth where it hit and instantly created millions of small diamonds.
I stayed back in the coach and rested while the two women toured the crater. :) A test capsule from NASA that is on display at the Meteor Site.
