The Smokey Mountains
You can never appreciate the natural beauty of an area till you get off the main roads and ride onto some of the back roads. And that is exactly what we did on the way to the Smokey's, actually we got so far off the beaten path we got lost for a short period of time but we ended up discovering some scenic roads.
We entered the Smokey's through the main entrance near Gatlinburg and began our ascent up through the mountain. Every turn seemed to bring a different view and throughout the trip to the top there were numerous pull offs to park the bikes, get off and take some pictures. We also took along some coffee and on a few stops had a cup while enjoying the views at the pull off's. There was traffic, but because the speed limit is low, it made it a nice and relaxing ride to the top near Clingmans dome. Once there we spent our time wandering around looking and as luck would have it ( for Ally anyways ) an Artists class was there. We were able to visit with several of the artists and view their paintings as seen through their eyes.
Because of the National Honda " Hoot " convention going on in nearby Knoxville the mountains were filled with bikers. We had the chance to visit with many of them, look their bikes over and talk motorcycles. All in all, this ride turned out to be one of our better rides. It was fun, enjoyable, relaxing and we got to see some awesome scenery. I have included a few pictures from there. Hope you enjoy them and if your ever in Gatlinburg, TN, take the time to run up the mountain to see some of these views yourself. I am not going to bother putting captions under these pictures. Each one pretty much describes itself. Enjoy !
